The heart of the Pipetboy Mini is a pump and measuring valve combined into a single unit. This enables aspiration, dispensing and blow out.

The upper button is used for aspiration. When fully depressed the pump and valve system creates a vacuum which draws in the medium, thus aspiration is linked directly to the pressure on the button. By slowly, partly pressing the button an exact dose of the medium can be made. This is important for 1ml and 2ml pipettes to avoid overfilling.

The lower button can be pressed delicately to dispense and exact volume or fully until the pressure resistance is felt — the latter will dispense the full volume of the pipette. The approved O-ring principle is used in the Pipetboy Mini. As the liquid in the Pietboy Mini must be drawn off to overcome gravity, the aspiration speed is reduced in relation to the height of the liquid column in the pipette.
